Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
How do I log a meal without a photo?
Tap the + at the end of the tab bar and choose "Describe" to type what you had, or "Speak" to say it, e.g. "2 eggs, a slice of toast and orange juice." You'll get the same calorie and macro breakdown as a photo analysis. For packaged food, "Scan barcode" or "Scan nutrition label" uses the product's own numbers. If you already know the numbers, choose "Enter manually" — no analysis needed.
The portion size looks off — can I fix it?
Yes. After analyzing, adjust each item's weight with the −/+ buttons (10 g steps), type an exact amount in grams, or tap ×0.5, ×1, ×1.5 or ×2. The AI's original estimate stays visible as a hint, and calories and macros scale proportionally. Or type what's wrong under the result — "it was 2 eggs, no rice" — and the estimate is corrected without using a daily analysis. You can also edit a saved meal later from History. After a quick add (a pinned or frequent meal), the bar at the bottom lets you tap ×0.5, ×1, ×1.5 or ×2, undo it, or adjust it in detail.
Why do I have to sign in?
You can analyze your first 3 meals on a device without an account. After that, eatnibble asks you to sign in with Apple so your daily analysis limit follows your account rather than the device. It's the only sign-in method — no password, and you can use Apple's private relay instead of your real email.
What's the "remaining" number, and where does Apple Health come in?
Remaining = your daily calorie goal, plus the active energy you've burned today (read from Apple Health, if you allow it), minus everything you've logged. If your watch hasn't synced any active energy yet, eatnibble uses a conservative estimate from your walking and running distance until it does. Health access is optional — decline it and the app just uses your goal on its own.
Can I set my own calorie goal or macros?
Yes. In Profile → Goal & Calories, turn on "Set My Own Goal" and enter your number — the recommended goal stays visible as a reference. Pick a macro split (balanced, high protein, low carb or keto) or set your own carbs, protein and fat percentages. Add a goal weight there too: eatnibble then works out whether you're losing, maintaining or gaining, and Weight History shows how far you've come. Pick a weekly pace, and choose whether your maintenance comes from the formula or is measured from your meals and weigh-ins — tap ⓘ on the summary card to see how your goal is calculated.
Can I use pounds, fl oz or kilojoules?
Yes. In Profile → Units, choose Metric, US (feet and inches, pounds, fl oz), UK (stone and pounds) or Australia (kilojoules). The whole app, the widgets and the Watch follow your choice.
Is my data backed up anywhere?
If you're signed in to iCloud, your log, water and profile sync to your other devices through your own private iCloud — we can't see that copy, and it isn't on our servers. Meal photos don't sync; they stay on the iPhone where you took them. Your eatnibble account exists only to hold your daily analysis limit; your meals aren't attached to it. To keep a copy of everything, photos included, use Profile → Settings → Data & iCloud → Export data, and Import backup to restore it. Photos taken with the in-app camera are also saved to an "eatnibble" album in your Photos library.
How does water tracking work with Apple Health?
Tap a glass on the Home screen's water card for each drink. With Health access, each glass is saved to Apple Health as a water entry, and water logged by other apps is counted too — so your count can't go below what Health already has. In Profile → Water you set your daily goal and drink size (a glass, can, bottle or your own size), turn Health syncing off, or turn water tracking off altogether.
How do I set up meal or water reminders?
Go to Profile → Settings → Notifications. Meal reminders let you pick your first meal time, how many meals a day and the interval; water reminders run every few hours between a start and end time. If nothing arrives, check that notifications are allowed for eatnibble in iOS Settings.
Where can I see my weekly or monthly averages?
In History, the card at the top shows this week's and this month's daily average. Tap either one for a chart of every day, your goal adherence, highest and lowest day and your most-logged meals. Switch to the calendar view to see each day at a glance. Every history screen has a share button to send a summary as text.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile → Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your backend account and its analysis history and can't be undone. "Clear log" in Profile → Settings → Data & iCloud only wipes your meal entries, meal photos and water history on the device and leaves the account in place.
How do I change the app's language?
eatnibble follows your device's language setting, with English as the fallback. To change it for eatnibble only, go to iPhone Settings → Apps → eatnibble → Language; for the whole phone, Settings → General → Language & Region.
What happens to a photo after it's analyzed?
On our side, it's processed in memory to produce the nutrition estimate and isn't stored afterward. On your phone, it stays attached to the meal in your log until you delete the meal or clear your log. See our Privacy Policy for details.
What is the weekly coach?
At the end of each week, a card on Home offers a short review of what you logged: what went well, what slipped and what to try next week. You can then ask it questions. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence it runs on the device; elsewhere it needs you to be signed in and sends only that week's logged meals. You can also open it from a week's average in History.
How do I share meals with my partner?
Both of you need to be signed in. Go to Profile → Settings → Partner: one of you creates a 6-digit code, the other enters it within 10 minutes. After that, a "Share with …" toggle appears when you save a meal. Your partner gets it marked for review and adds it with "I Ate It" — or "I Didn't". Your logs stay separate.
How do I share my eating plan or a meal report?
Sign in, then go to Profile → Sharing. "Share My Plan" sends your macro split and whichever of your calorie cycling, fasting plan, recipes and pinned meals you choose; "Share a Meal Report" sends the meals you logged in the last 7, 14 or 30 days — handy for a dietitian. Type the name to show, add a note if you like, pick when the link expires, and tap Create Link. Anyone with the link can open it on eatnibble.app; with the app installed, a plan link opens in eatnibble and lets them add the parts they want — their own calorie goal stays theirs. Your goal, weight and Apple Health data are never shared.
How do I stop sharing a link?
Go to Profile → Shared Links and swipe the link (or touch and hold it), then choose Stop Sharing. The page stops working right away and the link is deleted from our backend. Links also stop on their own when the time you picked runs out.
Does eatnibble work on Apple Watch?
Yes — the Watch app comes with the iPhone app (if it isn't on your Watch yet, install it from the Watch app on your iPhone). See today's ring, add water and log your saved, recipe or frequent meals from your wrist, and add the complication to your watch face. The Watch gets its numbers from your iPhone.
Can I log meals from Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Connect eatnibble to your AI assistant and log meals by describing them. See Connect an AI assistant.
